The blockchain industry continues to disrupt various sectors, and now it has made its way into the film industry with the creation of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In what can be regarded as a groundbreaking move, the movie called “Calladita / The Quiet Maid” has been funded through the sale of NFTs and has secured a global sales deal. This movie, directed by Spanish filmmaker Miguel Faus, is the first European feature film financed by NFTs and is set to premiere at the Tallinn Film Festival. The world sales rights for the film were acquired by the Iberoamerican company FilmSharks at the Iberseries conference held in Madrid.

“The Quiet Maid” has already made waves in the industry by winning the Steven Soderbergh Foundation Grand Prize at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. This recognition highlights the immense potential of blockchain technology in the film industry and attests to the quality and creativity of the film.

The involvement of Steven Soderbergh, a renowned American film director and producer, adds further credibility to the project. Soderbergh backed “The Quiet Maid” with a significant investment of $100,000 from an on-chain fund through the Decentralized Pictures Foundation. This shows the growing interest and support of established figures in the film industry for blockchain-powered projects.

The debut of “The Quiet Maid” is scheduled for November, with its premiere taking place at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. This festival, which will be held from November 3-19, provides an international platform for the movie to showcase its unique storyline and cinematic qualities. The production team behind the film includes Calladita Films, Potenza Producciones, and Decentralized Pictures, and it features an impressive cast including Paula Grimaldo, Ariadna Gil, Luis Bermejo, and Pol Hermoso.

The film follows the story of Ana from Colombia, who starts working as a servant in an art collector’s luxurious villa in an affluent Spanish neighborhood in Catalonia. Within a few days, the seemingly ordinary villa transforms into a rabbit hole, leading Ana to create chaos instead of order. The description hints at the intriguing and thought-provoking nature of the film, promising an immersive and captivating experience for viewers.

It’s worth mentioning that “The Quiet Maid” is based on a short film by Miguel Faus, released in 2020, which gained recognition at the Palm Springs Shortfest and Malaga Film Festival before being acquired for streaming by HBO Max. This successful track record further adds to the anticipation and buzz surrounding the feature film adaptation.

Commenting on the significance of “The Quiet Maid,” Faus described it as an important story that deserves an international stage. Federico Pascua, Senior Sales and Acquisitions at FilmSharks, also acknowledged the film’s value, referring to it as a “gem” that stands out due to its diverse cinematic flavors and its timely portrayal of social dissonance happening in the world.

In addition to the film’s groundbreaking financing model, Miguel Faus has also introduced an exciting opportunity for viewers. He announced a raffle of a Calladita NFT for those who can spot every NFT appearing in the official trailer. This innovative use of NFTs further demonstrates the creative possibilities blockchain technology brings to the entertainment industry.

The blockchain revolution continues to reshape industries, and as the film industry embraces this technology, we can expect to see more projects funded and supported through NFTs. The success of “The Quiet Maid” opens up new avenues for filmmakers and provides a unique platform for storytellers to connect with a global audience. With blockchain technology at its core, the future of the film industry holds endless opportunities for creative expression and innovative financing models.
