Gemini to open European headquarters in Dublin

The cryptocurrency company Gemini has announced that it will open its new European headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. On May 25th, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, the owners of the company, stated that they chose Dublin due to its established technology and innovation community, strong regulatory landscape, and large pool of talented individuals.

This move is seen as an expansion of the American cryptocurrency company’s reach across the European continent.

The billionaire investors, who founded Gemini, also met with Leo Varadkar, the Prime Minister of Ireland, stating that Ireland will serve as their gateway into the European Union as they plan to expand their business across the continent.

Cameron Winklevoss stated that the company reviewed all potential entry points in the EU and felt comfortable with Ireland and the reputation of its regulator. Following the official announcement, the Prime Minister congratulated Gemini on achieving this milestone and recognized its importance for the Irish economy and its commitment to fostering innovation.

Gemini already has a cryptocurrency trading platform in Ireland and 11 other European countries and plans to become a household name in the European crypto scene. The company also has an established presence in Dublin, where it has an operational office with a workforce of 12 individuals. Gemini was awarded a virtual asset service provider license from the Central Bank of Ireland in July 2022.

The company has plans to expand its workforce in Europe after the EU adopted the new Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulations (MiCA) in May 2022. This move by Gemini comes as regulatory pressure grows in the United States, where the company has faced criticism and charges by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Cameron Winklevoss described the situation as challenging and accused the SEC of lacking consistency in its actions. In April, Gemini announced its plans to establish an engineering hub in India to leverage its growing pool of tech talent.
